FACTS ABOUT MAUNA LOA

The Mauna Loa earths biggest volcano. The Mauna Loa is located in Hawaii. The Mauna Loa got its name because it is a long mountain and because Mauna Loa stands for (long mountain). The Mauna Loa is a shield volcano witch means that it is a gently sloping mountain with allot of lava flows. The Mauna Loa is 13,448 feet tall. This mountain is above sea level so it may not look as big.The Mauna Loa is actually 3/4 of a mile the size of Mt.Everest.=O One of the most biggest eruptions was March 24-April15 ,1984. It has 33 historical eruptions. The most recent eruption was on March 24, 2008 at 2:22am and was located 6 km south of Mauna Loa summit and it was as deep as 3 km the rating for that eruption was 3.2.The depth of the volcano is about 183 meters deep. The dimension is 3x5km. And guess what the Mauna Loa takes up half of the Island of Huwaii and by itself amounts to about 85 percent of all the other Hawaiian islands combined. The Mauna Loa has been erupting for at least 700,000 years. The Mauna Loa has erupted 39 times so far.The first recorded eruption was in 1794 by a scientist named Archibald Menzies, Menzies calculated that the eruption was 50 feet or 15 meters height. The people of Hawaii now know where the lava flows so they wont make any houses or anything in the path of the volcano's hot lava. The damages are very high for mostly all the eruption such as trees get burned down, lots of animals that live around the volcano die and get killed, either if they got burned or got suffocated by the hazer dis smoke and ash.The Mauna Loa mass takes up 40,000 cubic kilometers of mountain.Evan tho this volcano is always active there are many advantages for the people of Hawaii. For example since Hawaii is a small island every time the lava from the volcano goes into the Pacific Ocean the lava with the water mixes and cools witch creates more land.
